In one of the NFL's few quarterback battles this summer, the veteran remains ahead of the younger pivot.

Entering the second week of training camp, Miami Dolphins head coach Brian Flores says Ryan Fitzpatrick is leading Josh Rosen in the team's starting quarterback competition.

"It is pretty clear to me that Ryan Fitzpatrick is leading the way," Flores told reporters on Tuesday, according to ESPN's Cameron Wolfe.

The 36-year-old appears to be continuing his momentum from minicamp when, according to a number of reporters, he consistently outplayed the 2018 first-round pick.

Rosen was acquired from the Arizona Cardinals during draft week after the Cards selected Kyler Murray No. 1 overall. Many expected the second-year passer to command an early lead on his way to capturing the Week 1 starting spot. But from the moment he was hired, Flores stressed there would be a fair competition.

The battle is still in its early stages, and preseason performances could go a long way toward determining the winner. Miami hosts the Baltimore Ravens to begin the regular season on Sep. 8.
