While there is still lots of work to be done in NFL collective bargaining agreement talks, it appears the players and owners are making headway in some areas.
Both sides are open to expanding the playoff field from 12 teams to 14 while cutting the preseason down to three games, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport reported.
Players continue to oppose adding regular-season games, but expanding the playoff field would help offset revenue lost by reducing the number of preseason games, according to Pelissero and Rapoport.
Playoff expansion has reportedly yet to be formally proposed in bargaining. Negotiations are expected to continue Monday and it remains unlikely that a deal will be reached before the start of the 2019 season.
