Report: Gordon's holdout expected to continue into regular season

Los Angeles Chargers running back Melvin Gordon's holdout is expected to continue into the regular season, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Contract talks haven't progressed as the running back had hoped, so he'll remain in Florida to train for the foreseeable future, Rapoport added.

The news echoes a similar report from last week that said Los Angeles and Gordon weren't making progress on a new contract.

The 26-year-old previously threatened to continue his holdout into the regular season if the Chargers don't extend or trade him. The team has yet to grant the tailback permission to seek out potential trade partners.

Meanwhile, Gordon's already rejected an offer from Los Angeles that would have netted him an average annual salary of $10 million. He's reportedly seeking roughly $13 million per season.

The two-time Pro Bowler is entering the fifth and final year of his rookie contract. Running backs Austin Ekeler and Justin Jackson will lead Anthony Lynn's backfield for the time being.
