Carolina Panthers fans can likely take a collective sigh of relief.
Head coach Ron Rivera said Tuesday there's "no doubt in my mind" that starting quarterback Cam Newton will be ready for the Panthers' season opener on Sept. 8 against the Los Angeles Rams, according to Steve Reed of the Associated Press.
Newton sprained his foot while being tackled during Carolina's Week 3 preseason game against the New England Patriots.
However, the quarterback was back at practice Tuesday, threw well, and had a good workout, Rivera added.
The eight-year vet also underwent an arthroscopic procedure on his throwing shoulder earlier this offseason and has been working on a new passing motion.
