Dolphins trade Alonso to Saints
The Miami Dolphins continued their overhaul Sunday, trading linebacker Kiko Alonso to the New Orleans Saints, the team announced Sunday.
Miami receives linebacker Vince Biegel in return.
Alonso had apparently requested to be dealt after spending the last three seasons in Miami.
The 29-year-old was considered a candidate to be traded or cut for most of the offseason. He racked up 125 tackles, three forced fumbles, and three interceptions last year but was set to see his role diminish in 2019 with Jerome Baker and Raekwon McMillan playing larger roles.
Meanwhile, the Saints add a productive veteran to a linebacking corps that already features Demario Davis, Alex Anzalone, and A.J. Klein.
Biegel was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the fourth round of the 2017 draft. He appeared in 14 games last year for the Saints, primarily playing on special teams.
