Elway: NFL officials admitted late penalty vs. Bears was 'dead wrong'
A late penalty call against the Denver Broncos helped put the Chicago Bears in position to kick a game-winning field goal in their 16-14 Week 2 road victory, and the league has apparently since admitted that was the wrong call.
Broncos general manager John Elway said this week that NFL officials admitted that the 15-yard penalty on defensive end Bradley Chubb for roughing the passer was "dead wrong," according to Joe Rubino of The Denver Post.
The call gave the Bears the ball on their own 45-yard line with 24 seconds remaining in the game.
Chicago would gain 30 more yards before making the winning kick.
The league's admission didn't garner much of a response from Elway.
"So, that didn't help," he said to laughs at a Denver business startup discussion.
The loss dropped the Broncos to 0-2 after a Week 1 defeat at the hands of the Oakland Raiders.
