Report: Saints to start Bridgewater, sprinkle in Hill

Teddy Bridgewater will get the start at quarterback for the New Orleans Saints in Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks with Taysom Hill sprinkled in throughout the game, reports ESPN's Dianna Russini.

Head coach Sean Payton refused to name a starter earlier in the week after Drew Brees underwent thumb surgery. On Wednesday, Payton said he'd "approach the game with two QBs."

After Brees left last Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Rams with the injury, Bridgewater took all of the snaps, going 17-for-30 for 165 yards. Hill only saw time at receiver, catching two passes for 16 yards.

Hill - a quarterback, running back, receiver, and special-teamer for the Saints - has yet to attempt a pass this season. The third-year pro threw seven passes and completed three of them in 2018. He spent most of his time carrying the football, running for 196 yards at a 5.3 yards-per-carry average.

Bridgewater hasn't seen extensive time as a starting quarterback since 2015 when he was with the Minnesota Vikings. He shredded his knee in the 2016 offseason and made a miraculous comeback before signing with the Saints in 2018. In his lone start last season, in Week 17, he went 14-for-22 for 118 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in a loss.
