The New York Giants ruled running back Saquon Barkley out of Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings.
Barkley was trying to make a miraculous return from a high ankle sprain suffered in Week 3 that was supposed to sideline him for four-to-eight weeks. He returned to practice this week and was even seen running and cutting.
Both Barkley and the Giants have expressed optimism about a return in the near future for the sophomore rusher.
Wayne Gallman will start in Barkley's place in Week 5.
The 2018 Offensive Rookie of the Year topped 100 yards on the ground in each of his two games this year before sustaining the injury against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
