Colts' Houston comes up big in revenge game vs. Chiefs
Justin Houston's fingerprints were all over the Indianapolis Colts' 19-13 upset win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night, getting revenge on the team that released him in March after eight seasons.
"I didn't like the way things ended when I left here so to come back and get a win means so much to me," the edge rusher told NBC's Michele Tafoya on the field postgame.
Houston, who signed a two-year deal with the Colts shortly after his exit from Kansas City, sacked Patrick Mahomes in the first half and came up with the game-defining fourth-down stop at the 5:02 mark of the fourth quarter.
The four-time Pro Bowler recorded 78.5 sacks with the Chiefs, the fourth-most in franchise history. He got off to a slow start with the Colts, notching just one sack in his first four games, but the veteran was a force against his former team.
After tallying his second sack of the season, the 30-year-old gestured toward the Chiefs' bench. Houston said he returned to Arrowhead Stadium with a little extra motivation.
"It's just like if you are around your old girlfriend and you are with your new girl - you want to show her off," he told reporters postgame, according to Charlie Clifford of WISH-TV.
Houston arrived at the stadium earlier than usual, walking across the field by himself to ease his emotions.
"He's such a great player and good leader and good person," Colts head coach Frank Reich said, according to Jim Ayello of the Indianapolis Star. "I'm happy for all of us but I'm especially happy for him."
