Arians still confident in Winston, not considering change at QB
Following Jameis Winston's six-turnover performance in Sunday's loss to the Carolina Panthers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians said he isn't entertaining the idea of a quarterback change after the team's Week 7 bye.
"No. I look at the reasons why," Arians said Monday, according to ESPN's Jenna Laine. "What happened? If it happens again, yeah, it'll concern the hell out of me."
Winston threw five interceptions and lost a fumble in a 37-26 defeat in London. It continued a troubling trend of strong performances mixed with a propensity for turnovers across Winston's five-year career.
"I think as we continue to grow together, I think it will get better and these games will be one in a million and not one every five," Arians said.
Winston is in his contract year. The only other quarterback on the Buccaneers' active roster is Ryan Griffin, a six-year pro who has yet to appear in a regular-season game.
Last season, under previous head coach Dirk Koetter, the team yo-yoed between Winston and journeyman quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. Winston began the year by serving a three-game suspension for violating the league's personal conduct policy. He drew nine starts over the rest of the campaign, missing three starts partway through the season when he was benched for Fitzpatrick.
