Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford is set to miss Sunday's game against the Chicago Bears, the team announced.

Stafford reportedly has fractured bones in his back and doctors won't clear him to play, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter. Jeff Driskel will replace Stafford, who'd previously started 136 straight games.

The 31-year-old is considered week-to-week moving forward, according to Schefter, and the injury could sideline him for "this week or three weeks."

Stafford was apparently hoping to play through the injury and was expected to be a game-time decision. He was limited in all three practices this week.

At 3-4-1, the Lions are attempting to keep their wild-card hopes alive against their divisional rivals.

While Detroit has fallen short of expectations, Stafford is in the midst of one of his best seasons. The quarterback has thrown for 2,499 yards, 19 touchdowns, and five interceptions in eight games.

Driskel joined the Lions this past offseason. In five starts for the Cincinnati Bengals in 2018, he tossed six touchdowns and two interceptions.
