Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is expected to be sidelined for several more weeks due to his Lisfranc injury, a source told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Newton met with foot specialist Dr. Robert Anderson and is now weighing his options, one of which is a stint on injured reserve, Rapoport adds.
Anderson didn't recommend surgery for the former MVP, as the hope is that more rest will allow the injury to heal.
Newton played in only the first two games this campaign. He injured his foot during the preseason but was able to return for Week 1.
The Panthers previously believed Newton would be ready to return after their Week 7 bye.
Kyle Allen will continue to start at quarterback. Carolina is 4-1 with Allen under center.
