Zimmer: Kubiak 'the best thing' to happen to me during Vikings tenure
The Minnesota Vikings' offense has been firing on all cylinders lately, and on Wednesday, head coach Mike Zimmer heaped praise on one of the main contributors: assistant head coach and offensive adviser Gary Kubiak.
"Gary has been tremendous. It's probably the best thing that's ever happened to me since I came here," Zimmer told reporters.
Minnesota's offense ranked 20th in the league last season, prompting Zimmer to make some changes to his staff. He promoted Kevin Stefanski to offensive coordinator midway through 2018 and hired Kubiak in the offseason.
The offense has improved as a result, sitting eighth in offensive yardage through Week 10. Quarterback Kirk Cousins has impressed, boasting the third-best passer rating in the NFL to go with a sparkling 18-3 touchdown-to-interception ratio.
The running game has been potent as well, as the Vikings sit in third with 153 rushing yards per game while leading the NFL with 12 scores.
Kubiak had been out of football for a few years, previously serving as head coach of the Denver Broncos from 2015-2016 and the Houston Texans from 2006-2013.
