Derwin James says he's 'real close' to return from injury
The Los Angeles Chargers could get their All-Pro safety back following their week off.
Derwin James has missed the entire regular season after suffering a stress fracture in his foot during August. The Chargers have started 4-7 without him, but the stud sophomore is looking to make his return in Week 13 when the team comes out of its bye.
"I'm feeling well, feeling better, getting better every day," James said Tuesday on "NFL Total Access," according to NFL.com's Jeremy Bergman.
"Just taking it day by day. It's real close, real soon. I can say that. So just taking it day by day. Working hard to get back out there."
James burst onto the scene with a stellar rookie season in 2018, racking up 105 total tackles, 3.5 sacks, three interceptions, and 13 passes defensed.
He was also the third-ranked safety in coverage, according to PFF, allowing just 7.1 yards per reception and a 71.8 passer rating against.
The Chargers have just five games left to turn their season around. When asked if he'll be available for L.A.'s Week 13 matchup versus the Denver Broncos, James said, "Stay tuned."
