Garrett on alleged racial slur from Rudolph: 'I know what I heard'
After the NFL upheld his suspension for his role in last Thursday's brawl with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Myles Garrett released a statement on the league's ruling and claimed he heard a racial slur from Mason Rudolph.
"I was assured that the hearing was space that afforded the opportunity to speak openly and honestly about the incident that led to my suspension," Garrett said. "This was not meant for public dissemination, nor was it a convenient attempt to justify my actions or restore my image in the eyes of those I disappointed.
"I know what I heard. Whether my opponent's comment was born out of frustration or ignorance, I cannot say. But his actions do not excuse my lack of restraint in the moment, and I truly regret the impact that this has had on the league, the Browns, and our devoted fans."
During the hearing, the NFL looked into Garrett's allegations and "found no such evidence."
Rudolph told reporters Wednesday he didn't say anything to the Cleveland Browns defensive end that would've escalated tensions prior to the fight, and the quarterback's attorney slammed the allegation immediately after it was publicized.
Garrett will miss the remainder of the 2019 season under the ban and will be required to meet with commissioner Roger Goodell prior to a decision on his reinstatement.
