Cardinals' Shaw suspended through at least 2020 for betting on NFL games
Arizona Cardinals defensive back Josh Shaw has been suspended through the 2020 season - and potentially longer - for betting on NFL games on multiple occasions this season, according to a release from the league.
Shaw has been on injured reserve since the preseason.
The NFL said its investigation found no evidence that any games were compromised, or that any teammates, coaches, or players were aware of Shaw's activity.
"The continued success of the NFL depends directly on each of us doing everything necessary to safeguard the integrity of the game and the reputations of all who participate in the league," NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said. "At the core of this responsibility is the longstanding principle that betting on NFL games, or on any element of a game, puts at risk the integrity of the game, damages public confidence in the NFL, and is forbidden under all circumstances. If you work in the NFL in any capacity, you may not bet on NFL football."
Shaw, a fifth-year veteran, played for the Cincinnati Bengals, Kansas City Chiefs, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers before joining Arizona this year. The 27-year-old was a fourth-round pick of the Bengals out of USC in 2015.
Shaw will be allowed to apply for reinstatement on Feb. 15, 2021.
