Seahawks' Penny suffers significant ACL sprain in loss to Rams
Seattle Seahawks running back Rashaad Penny was diagnosed with a significant ACL sprain in his left knee after leaving Sunday night's loss to the Los Angeles Rams, head coach Pete Carroll announced, per Gregg Bell of Tacoma News Tribune.
Penny, the 27th overall pick of the 2018 draft, suffered the injury on a 16-yard catch-and-run in the first quarter.
The 23-year-old entered the matchup with the Rams following the best two-game stretch of his career.
Penny ran for 203 yards and two touchdowns in wins against the Philadelphia Eagles and Minnesota Vikings, and added another 33 yards and a touchdown through the air against the latter.
Chris Carson has been Seattle's top running back throughout the season, with Penny playing sparingly behind him. But with Carson's fumbling issues resurfacing (four in Week 9-12, one lost), the NFC West club has looked to get its first-round pick more involved in the offense.
C.J. Prosise and Travis Homer are the other two running backs on the Seahawks' roster.
