Report: Panthers expected to start Grier at QB vs. Colts
The Carolina Panthers are expected to start rookie quarterback Will Grier versus the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Kyle Allen had started each of the Panthers' last 12 games since Cam Newton aggravated his foot injury. Allen won his first four outings but has registered just one victory in his last eight games.
Carolina has yet to make the switch official, but the team will likely prioritize evaluating its young passer during the team's final two games. Head coach Perry Fewell said a starter will be announced Wednesday, according to NFL Network's Andrew Siciliano.
After a productive two years at West Virginia, the Panthers selected Grier in the third round in April's draft. He completed 55.7% of his passes for 385 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions in preseason action.
Carolina's quarterback situation is up in the air with Newton's health and status with the team in question and Allen likely no longer considered to be a long-term starter.
The Panthers end the 2019 campaign at home against the New Orleans Saints following their Week 16 matchup with Indianapolis.
