Report: Rams expected to shake up coaching staff
2019 marked the first time Sean McVay failed to earn a playoff berth in his head-coaching career.
The Los Angeles Rams were eliminated from postseason contention following their 34-31 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday, and the team is expected to shake up McVay's coaching staff as a result, sources told NFL Network's Michael Silver.
Defensive coordinator Wade Phillips could be included in the changes, per Silver. Phillips was hired in 2017 and helped the Rams make a Super Bowl run last season, but his unit took a step back in 2019.
"I don't know exactly what's going to happen," one Rams veteran told Silver on Saturday. "But I'd expect some major changes around here in the next few months."
McVay expressed his disappointment to reporters following his club's loss to the 49ers as Los Angeles dropped to 8-7 on the year.
"Our season will end next week, and it's a sickening feeling and one that will drive me... Every. Single. Freaking. Day... until next season arrives, and we finally get to come out and take another swing," he said.
"It might be worse (than the Super Bowl loss)," McVay added. "At least, right now, it feels that way... Every single loss, you feel like you lose a piece of your soul."
