The Minnesota Vikings aren't expected to retain defensive coordinator George Edwards for next season, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Edwards has served as head coach Mike Zimmer's top defensive lieutenant since 2014. The 52-year-old has also worked for the Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns, Washington Redskins, and Dallas Cowboys over his career.

The decision not to retain Edwards means Minnesota will forge ahead with new coordinators on offense and defense in 2020. Offensive coordinator Kevin Stefanski will reportedly become the new head coach of the Cleveland Browns.

The Vikings owned the league's 14th-ranked defense in 2019. Their season ended in the NFC divisional round with a 27-10 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
