Tua expects to be fully cleared soon, will host own pro day in April
Tua Tagovailoa will soon be ready to showcase his talents to NFL teams.
The former Alabama quarterback told reporters at the combine Tuesday that he expects to be fully cleared from his hip injury March 9 and will throw during an individual pro day April 9, according to ESPN's Cameron Wolfe.
It's uncertain whether Tagovailoa will be ready to participate in Alabama's pro day set for March 24 or if he'll wait until his own workout to throw for teams as he continues to recover from a dislocated hip and posterior wall fracture.
Tagovailoa isn't participating in drills at the combine but did undergo a medical evaluation Monday. He said he was the last person to leave the hospital after a near 10-hour stay.
Tagovailoa's health is arguably the biggest question mark at the top of the draft. The signal-caller is widely expected to be a top-10 pick and the second quarterback off the board after Joe Burrow, but the long-term evaluation of his hip injury should determine how high the former Heisman runner-up is selected.
Though it's been speculated Tagovailoa might need to sit out some or all of his rookie season, the quarterback is confident he'll be "ready to go" for his eventual team's offseason program, according to Pro Football Talk's Charean Williams.
The 21-year-old produced an all-time great career at Alabama. He cemented himself as a college football legend by leading Alabama to a comeback victory over Georgia in the 2018 national championship game after replacing Jalen Hurts for the second half.
Tagovailoa started for the Crimson Tide for the next two years, throwing a school-record 87 touchdowns.
