Report: CBS to pay Romo around $17M per season on new deal

Tony Romo is still making quarterback money, even as an analyst.

The former Dallas Cowboys passer and current broadcaster has reached a new deal worth around $17 million per season with CBS, sources told Andrew Marchand of the New York Post.

The contract would make Romo the highest-paid NFL analyst in TV history.

Romo's new deal is for three years, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, but the terms of the contract would extend an additional seven years to a 10-year deal if the NFL extends its rights deal with CBS.

In his 14 NFL seasons, Romo made more than $17 million in a season on only three occasions.

Upon retiring from the NFL, Romo signed a three-year, $12-million contract with CBS that expired after the 2019 season. He was expected to command more than $10 million annually in an extension and to be heavily coveted by rival networks.

Romo has paired with CBS play-by-play man Jim Nantz. CBS will broadcast Super Bowl LV on Feb. 7, 2021.
