Theismann: Redskins drafting anyone but Young 'would be a mistake'
After questioning Dwayne Haskins' ability to play in his rookie year, Washington Redskins legend Joe Theismann now stands firmly in support of the quarterback.
Speaking on the "Grant and Danny" show on 106.7 The Fan on Wednesday, Theismann said the Redskins shouldn't use the second overall pick in April's draft on another quarterback.
"Chase Young will be the choice at No. 2. Anybody other than him would be a mistake for our football team," Theismann said, according to show host Grant Paulsen.
The Ohio State pass-rusher has long been projected as the second player off the board after LSU quarterback Joe Burrow. But new Redskins head coach Ron Rivera opened the door to speculation when he said at last week's combine that "everything is an option" for the team, including Burrow and Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
The 22-year-old Haskins played in nine contests and started seven in 2019, winning two games.
"You have to give him a chance. There's not enough tape for someone to evaluate (if) he can or can not play," Theismann said. "I believe in the kid. I really do."
