Report: Saints plan to use 1st-round tender on Taysom Hill
The New Orleans Saints intend to place a first-round tender on restricted free-agent quarterback Taysom Hill, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
A first-round tender affords New Orleans the right to match any offer sheet from another team for Hill. Should it opt not to, the NFC South team will receive a first-round pick.
The tender will be worth around $5 million for 2020, but the Saints believe they'll sign Hill to a contract extension prior to the start of free agency, added Schefter.
With Drew Brees returning for his 20th season and Teddy Bridgewater set to hit the open market, Hill is in line to be New Orleans' primary backup next season.
After Brees' announcement, Hill said he was "in no hurry to leave" the Saints despite his desire to be a starter at some point.
Hill has primarily filled a gadget role in New Orleans while also playing special teams. The 29-year-old has 13 career passing attempts and has yet to throw a touchdown pass, though he did catch six scores and rush for another last season.
