Report: Giants, Jets interested in top free-agent CBs
The New York Giants and New York Jets have expressed interest in free-agent cornerbacks Byron Jones and James Bradberry, sources told SNY's Ralph Vacchiano.
Jones and Bradberry are considered the top two corners set to hit the open market when the new league begins March 18. Both are expected to land lucrative contracts.
Both New York squads require significant upgrades to their respective secondaries ahead of the 2020 campaign. The Jets ranked 17th in pass defense last season, while the Giants were 28th.
Gang Green reportedly informed Trumaine Johnson of his release Monday, a move that will save the team $3 million in cap space but result in $12 million in dead money.
The Giants selected DeAndre Baker in the first round of last year's draft but need a starter opposite him.
Jones has spent his entire five-year career with the Dallas Cowboys, but the 27-year-old is expected to command a contract exceeding the team's price range; the Cowboys are prioritizing new deals for Dak Prescott and Amari Cooper this offseason.
Bradberry, 26, has reportedly drawn interest from the Washington Redskins in addition to his current squad, the Carolina Panthers.
