Franchise tag tracker: 15 players tagged ahead of deadline
The deadline for NFL teams to assign the franchise tag to one of their pending free agents is Monday at 11:59 a.m. ET.
Once a player is tagged, he and his team have until July 15 to negotiate a multi-year extension. The tag restricts a player's rights in free agency while offering him a one-year contract worth no less than the average of the top five salaries at his respective position.
The following players received the franchise tag:
Team | Player | Position | Salary |
---|---|---|---|
Bengals | A.J. Green | WR | $17.8M |
Broncos | Justin Simmons | S | $11.4M |
Buccaneers | Shaq Barrett | LB | $15.8M |
Chargers | Hunter Henry | TE | $10.6M |
Chiefs | Chris Jones | DT | $16.1M |
Cowboys | Dak Prescott | QB | $26.8M |
Giants | Leonard Williams | DL | $16.1M |
Jaguars | Yannick Ngakoue | DE | $17.7M |
Patriots | Joe Thuney | OL | $14.7M |
Ravens | Matthew Judon | LB | $15.8M |
Redskins | Brandon Scherff | G | $14.7M |
Steelers | Bud Dupree | LB | $15.8M |
Titans | Derrick Henry | RB | $10.2M |
Vikings | Anthony Harris* | S | $11.4M |
Clubs that don't use the franchise tag can use the transition tag on one player, giving themselves the right to match any offer in free agency. If a player signs the transition tender, he will receive a one-year contract worth the average of the top 10 salaries at the player's position. The transition tag is seldom used in comparison to the franchise tag.
The following players have received the transition tag:
Team | Player | Position | Salary |
---|---|---|---|
Cardinals | Kenyan Drake | RB | $8.4M |
* Team hasn't made official announcement yet.
