Report: Falcons releasing Freeman, Trufant, Sambrailo

The Atlanta Falcons are spending the Monday before the new league year shedding salary.

The Falcons are releasing starting running back Devonta Freeman after six seasons, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The move would save the team more than $3 million against the salary cap.

Atlanta also reportedly plans to release starting cornerback Desmond Trufant this week after seven seasons. That move would clear $4.5 million in cap space.

Finally, the team announced the release of offensive lineman Ty Sambrailo. Sambrailo was acquired via trade from the Denver Broncos for a fifth-round draft pick in 2017. He went on to play in 44 games for the Falcons, starting six.

Sambrailo was set to have $1 million of his $4.5-million base salary fully guaranteed on March 22, according to Adam Caplan of Sirius XM.
