Eagles decline 2020 option on Jenkins
The Philadelphia Eagles won't exercise the 2020 contract option on Malcolm Jenkins, making the veteran safety a free agent, the team announced Tuesday.
Philadelphia will gain $4.78 million in cap space with the move, according to OverTheCap.
Jenkins spent six seasons with the Eagles and helped deliver the franchise its first-ever Super Bowl at the end of the 2017 campaign. He never missed a game and rarely left the field, playing 5,579 out of 5,669 defensive snaps.
The 32-year-old acknowledged at the end of the season that his future in Philadelphia was uncertain. He said he would refuse to return in 2020 without a pay raise, which he unsuccessfully lobbied for one year earlier.
Jenkins notched 11 interceptions in his Eagles career, though none came last season. He had 81 tackles and four forced fumbles in 2019.
He was a high-priced signing in 2014 after playing five seasons for the New Orleans Saints. The former first-round pick is a two-time Super Bowl champion and a three-time Pro Bowler.
