Godwin surprised Winston still a free agent
Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Chris Godwin has a new quarterback, but he's surprised his old signal-caller still hasn't found a job.
Jameis Winston, Godwin's teammate for the past three seasons, remains a free agent after the Buccaneers signed Tom Brady in March. Winston's resume includes many successes and red flags, including last year, when he led the league in passing while also throwing 30 interceptions.
But Godwin also believes the coronavirus pandemic has played a part in Winston's continued unemployment.
"Honestly, I'm very surprised," Godwin said on a Thursday conference call with reporters, according to Mark Cook of Pewter Report. "I think these are weird times right now and so I think that may be part of it, but I'm very surprised just because I think it's evident that the talent is there for Jameis. And I think you'd be hard-pressed to find 32 quarterbacks better than him."
Winston has been posting daily workout videos on social media in anticipation of landing a new job.
"I'm surprised, but I'm confident that he'll land somewhere and I know that he's a tough enough guy that he'll be ready whenever his opportunity comes," Godwin said.
