The NFL is taking mock drafts to a whole new level in 2020.
In light of next week's unprecedented draft circumstances, the league will hold a virtual trial run Monday, giving teams the opportunity to test out their remote setups, according to ESPN's Tim McManus.
With the COVID-19 pandemic impacting sports around the world, commissioner Roger Goodell told clubs to prepare for a "fully virtual" draft as scheduled - April 23-25 - while team and league facilities are closed indefinitely.
General managers and coaches won't select actual 2020 draft prospects during Monday's exercise. Instead, they may choose from former NFL legends.
A number of franchises are running their own simulations to get comfortable with the new approach. The league will also implement safeguards to prevent hacking and can stop the clock if a team encounters difficulty communicating its selection.
