Report: Former XFL commissioner Luck suing league founder McMahon
Former XFL commissioner Oliver Luck filed a federal lawsuit last week against the league's founder, billionaire Vince McMahon, for wrongful termination, according to The Athletic's Daniel Kaplan.
Luck is reportedly seeking unspecified damages from McMahon, who also is the chairman and CEO of WWE.
The former NFL quarterback was hired as commissioner of the rebooted XFL football league in 2018, reportedly for at least $20 million over multiple years.
After beginning play in 2020, the XFL filed for bankruptcy on April 13, days after suspending operations and laying off all employees. The league's first season back was canceled after six weeks due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In Luck's six-page complaint, it's suggested that McMahon fired him for cause.
"Mr. Luck wholly disputes and rejects the allegations set forth in the Termination Letter and contends they are pretextual and devoid of merit," it reads.
Luck, the father of former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck, was previously the head of NFL Europe and the NCAA's executive vice president for regulatory affairs.
