Cooks unfazed by 3rd trade in 4 years: 'I take it as a positive'

Houston Texans wide receiver Brandin Cooks isn't bothered by the fact that three teams have traded him within the last four years.

"The way that I look at it, I take it as a positive in that I'm wanted and that I'm valued at a high level still to this day," Cooks told reporters Thursday. "You look at all the trades, they all went for a first-round (pick) and this one going for a second round. To be honest with you, I'm blessed to be able to go around and play with so many different teams and different quarterbacks and different organizations."

The Texans acquired Cooks along with a future fourth-round pick from the Los Angeles Rams on April 9 for a second-rounder. The 26-year-old broke into the league with the New Orleans Saints, who dealt him to the New England Patriots in 2017. Cooks lasted one year in New England before the Patriots shipped him to the Rams, with whom he spent the last two seasons.

Despite the constant changes in scenery, Cooks has been productive at each stop. He's eclipsed the 1,000-yard plateau four times in six years.

"I look at it as teams want me and former teams feel like, 'Man, gosh, this is such a great deal for both sides. It's a win-win.' So, I don't think of it as a negative," he added. "I look forward to it. I'm a guy that adjusts pretty quick and wherever I go, like I tell people, I'm going to ball. I'm not worried about that."

Concussions contributed to Cooks' down season in 2019, in which he finished with 583 yards and two touchdowns. He'll look to get back on track in Houston while catching passes from Deshaun Watson, who'll join Drew Brees, Tom Brady, and Jared Goff as NFL quarterbacks to play alongside the speedy receiver.

"I mean, come on now. You tell any receiver that they get to play with those four quarterbacks, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't complain at all," said Cooks. "I learned something from each one of those guys and I'm extremely blessed to be able to implement that, not just into my game, but also my process and how I go about my everyday life on and off the field."
