Report: Support growing for 4th-and-15 play as alternative to onside kick

NFL owners are set to vote on potential rule changes for the 2020 campaign on May 28, and one proposal appears to be gaining steam.

Support is growing for a change proposed by the Philadelphia Eagles that would permit a fourth-and-15 offensive play from the kicking team's 25-yard line as an alternative to onside kicks, NFL.com's Judy Battista reports.

If the alteration is passed, teams would be allowed to attempt such a play no more than twice per game, Battista adds.

Teams would still have the option to attempt a traditional onside kick instead.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes weighed in on the potential change via Twitter.

The NFL's competition committee reviewed all proposals in March and agreed to bring the new rule to a vote during the upcoming virtual owners meeting.
