Report: Jets, Adams at stalemate in extension talks

Contracts negotiations between the New York Jets and Jamal Adams have stalled, and the safety's representatives believe the team is dragging its feet, sources told ESPN's Rich Cimini.

Adams is reportedly seeking a big-money extension before the start of the season, but the Jets prefer to wait, which has led to increased tension between the two parties. Adams is not currently participating in the club's voluntary virtual offseason program.

The possibility of a trade came up during talks Wednesday, but New York has no desire to move its star defensive back despite receiving interest from more than half of the teams in the league, a source told Cimini.

The Jets and Adams have reportedly yet to begin discussing the financial terms of a new deal.

After picking up the fifth-year option in the two-time Pro Bowler's rookie deal, the Jets have him under team control through the 2021 season.

Adams, who was a first-team All-Pro selection in 2019, is believed to be seeking an extension that'll make him the NFL's highest-paid safety. Eddie Jackson currently owns that distinction with a $14.6-million annual salary.

The Jets reportedly entertained trade offers for Adams during last year's deadline. The Dallas Cowboys were apparently the front-runners but ultimately balked at New York's asking price.
