Carroll says unnamed team called about Kaepernick: 'Someone is interested'
The Seattle Seahawks were the last NFL team to bring free-agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick in for a visit, doing so in 2017. Now, an unnamed team has reached out to learn what Seattle discovered about him.
Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll told reporters he received a call Thursday from another team asking about Kaepernick. It was the first time he'd received such a call.
"Someone is interested," Carroll said without specifying which club contacted him, according to Joe Fann of NBC Sports Northwest.
The prospect of Kaepernick returning to the NFL has gained some traction since commissioner Roger Goodell declared that the league was "wrong for not listening to NFL players" when they peacefully protested racial injustice and police brutality during the 2016 season.
The Seahawks ultimately did not sign Kaepernick in 2017 and postponed a scheduled workout with him in 2018. Carroll said Thursday he regrets that Seattle didn't sign Kaepernick, according to ESPN's Brady Henderson. Carroll added that he believed there wasn't a fit in 2017 because he considered Kaepernick a starting quarterback and the Seahawks had Russell Wilson entrenched as their starter.
Seattle is comfortable with its current quarterback depth chart, Carroll said, according to Henderson. Geno Smith is currently listed as the backup signal-caller behind Wilson.
