An MRI on New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley confirmed he tore his ACL against the Chicago Bears in Week 2, the team announced Monday.
Barkley will undergo surgery to repair his knee. The procedure typically comes with 10-12 months of recovery, meaning he should be sidelined for the remainder of the year.
The 23-year-old was off to a slow start in 2020, compiling only 34 yards on 19 carries. He eclipsed 1,000 rushing yards in each of his first two campaigns.
The Giants reportedly scheduled a visit with free-agent running back Devonta Freeman following Barkley's diagnosis. Barring a move, Dion Lewis will take Barkley's spot in the starting lineup.
New York is 0-2 heading into a Week 3 encounter with the San Francisco 49ers.
