Vikings sign Todd Davis amid defensive struggles
The Minnesota Vikings signed linebacker Todd Davis on Thursday as they look to restore a defense that has struggled to begin the season.
Minnesota placed rookie linebacker Troy Dye on injured reserve with a foot ailment in a corresponding move. The Vikings also lost linebacker Anthony Barr to a season-ending pectoral injury in Week 2, creating an opening in the starting lineup that Davis could conceivably fill.
Davis, 28, started 63 games for the Denver Broncos from 2014-19. He's coming off back-to-back seasons in which he recorded 100-plus tackles and was a surprise cut ahead of the 2020 campaign.
Typically a strong defensive team under head coach Mike Zimmer, the Vikings rank 29th in yards allowed and 31st in points surrendered through two weeks this year.
The winless Vikings face the unbeaten Tennessee Titans in Week 3.
