The San Francisco 49ers released wide receiver Mohamed Sanu, the team announced Tuesday.

Sanu registered just one reception for nine yards over three games after signing with San Francisco in mid-September. The 49ers brought him in amid a rash of injuries at wide receiver, but they've since gotten healthier at the position.

Sanu was with the New England Patriots at the beginning of training camp. The team cut him despite sending a second-round pick to the Atlanta Falcons in exchange for his services the previous season.

The 31-year-old had his most productive campaign in 2018, racking up 838 yards and four touchdowns with the Falcons while operating as the top receiving option after Julio Jones.

In 15 games split between the Falcons and Patriots last year, Sanu posted 59 catches for 520 yards and two touchdowns.
