Prescott undergoes surgery for ankle fracture, dislocation
Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott underwent surgery Sunday after suffering a right ankle compound fracture and dislocation versus the New York Giants, according to Albert Breer of The MMQB.
The procedure went "very well," a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.
A devastated Prescott was carted off the field with tears in his eyes, and he was taken to the hospital for further evaluation. Longtime Cincinnati Bengals starter Andy Dalton replaced him.
Prescott was injured while scrambling. His legs tangled with Giants defensive back Logan Ryan, whose knee came down hard on Prescott's ankle as he made the tackle.
Giants offensive coordinator and former Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett was among those who went out to check on Prescott as he waited for the cart.
Prescott entered Week 5 leading the NFL in passing after throwing for 1,690 yards to go with nine touchdowns and three interceptions. He ranked second in the league in passing last year.
The 27-year-old is scheduled to become a free agent at the end of the season. He agreed to play the 2020 campaign under the franchise tag after rejecting long-term contract offers from the Cowboys.
