Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones offered Dak Prescott his sympathy and support Sunday after the quarterback fractured and dislocated his ankle versus the New York Giants.

"We are all heartbroken for Dak and this very disappointing injury," Jones said in a statement. "The outpouring of messages that I have received regarding his setback speaks volumes to the respect and admiration that he has earned from his teammates, former Cowboys players, and Cowboys supporters everywhere."

Prescott was enjoying another productive outing in Week 5 when his legs tangled with defensive back Logan Ryan, who landed on the quarterback's ankle at the end of a scramble.

The passer immediately called to his sideline for the medical staff, and he was carted off the field with his foot out of place. He was taken to the hospital and underwent surgery.

"I know this young man very well," Jones continued. "I know the personal hardship and strife that he has faced, dealt with, and overcome in his young life.

"And I know no one is more prepared, from the perspective of mental and emotional toughness and determination, than Dak Prescott to respond and recover from this challenge that has been put in front of him."

Prescott led the NFL with 1,690 passing yards through four games, and he had recorded nine touchdowns against three interceptions. The 27-year-old went 14-of-21 passing for 166 yards with an interception against the Giants before the injury.

Veteran Andy Dalton relieved Prescott, helping the Cowboys defeat the Giants for their second win of the campaign.

Jones called Prescott "an inspiration to everyone he touches." He added that the Cowboys have "no doubt" the signal-caller "will return to the position of leadership and purpose that he brings our team."

Prescott is scheduled to become a free agent at the end of the season. He agreed to play under the franchise tag in 2020 after failing to strike a long-term deal with the Cowboys over the offseason.
