Darnold to return vs. Bills barring setback at practice
New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold will start Week 7 against the Buffalo Bills "barring any setbacks" at Friday's practice, head coach Adam Gase told reporters, according to SNY's Ralph Vacchiano.
Darnold missed two games after injuring his non-throwing shoulder on Oct. 1 versus the Denver Broncos. Joe Flacco started in his place in losses to the Arizona Cardinals and Miami Dolphins.
"He wants to play," Gase said. "The biggest decision we had to make was, 'Is this the right thing to do?' Because he wasn't willing to take 'No' for an answer."
Gase acknowledged that Darnold is still dealing with some pain. In his first four starts of the season, the quarterback completed 59.4% of his passes for 792 yards with three touchdowns and four interceptions.
The Jets also expect to have rookie left tackle Mekhi Becton in the lineup versus the Bills after he missed a pair of contests with a shoulder injury, Gase said.
The Jets enter Week 7 as the only winless team in the NFL.
