McCarthy disappointed Cowboys didn't defend Dalton after headshot

The Dallas Cowboys lost quarterback Andy Dalton versus the Washington Football Team after a headshot from linebacker Jon Bostic, and head coach Mike McCarthy isn't impressed with his team's response.

McCarthy noted no offensive players confronted Bostic after the vicious hit.

"We speak all the time about playing for one another, protecting one another," McCarthy said following the 25-3 loss, according to The Athletic's Jon Machota. "It definitely was not the response you would expect."

Dalton suffered a concussion on the play. He was alert after the game but didn't remember how he sustained the injury, per Machota.

Dallas has suffered consecutive losses, dropping its record to 2-5. A date on Sunday Night Football with the rival Philadelphia Eagles is on deck.

"We need to be much better," McCarthy said. "But we're running out of time."

Rookie seventh-rounder Ben DiNucci took over following Dalton's exit.
