Cowboys rookie DiNucci to start SNF vs. Eagles with Dalton out
Dallas Cowboys rookie quarterback Ben DiNucci will start Sunday night's pivotal NFC East clash against the Philadelphia Eagles after Andy Dalton was officially downgraded to out with a concussion Saturday, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
DiNucci, a seventh-round pick, was thrust into the lineup against the Washington Football team last week after Dalton exited following a late headshot from linebacker Jon Bostic.
The rookie went 2 of 3 passing for 29 yards, but he was also sacked three times.
The Cowboys spent the week praising DiNucci for his confidence, arm strength, and running ability.
DiNucci starred at James Madison in college, throwing 45 touchdowns and racking up nearly 6,000 total yards in two seasons starting. He was named the CAA Offensive Player of the Year in 2019.
"This is every kid's dream, getting a chance to be the starting quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys. What more could you want?" DiNucci said Thursday.
Dallas will be looking to keep pace with Philadelphia, which sits atop the struggling NFC East at 2-4-1. The Cowboys own a 2-5 record.
Garrett Gilbert will assume backup duties.
