Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Gardner Minshew will miss Sunday's game against the Houston Texans with a thumb injury, head coach Doug Marrone announced Monday, according to ESPN's Michael DiRocco.

Marrone said rookie sixth-round pick Jake Luton will make his first career start in place of Minshew.

Minshew is reportedly dealing with multiple fractures and a strained ligament in his right thumb. He felt discomfort since Oct. 11, but the Jaguars weren't aware of the injury until this week.

Marrone said he won't discipline Minshew for hiding the injury.

Luton is a tall, strong-armed quarterback who began his college career at Idaho. After transferring to a California community college in 2016, he spent the next three years at Oregon State, serving as the Beavers' primary starter in his final two campaigns.

Marrone didn't give a timeline for Minshew's recovery and said there's no guarantee he'll be the starter when he returns, according to DiRocco.

Veteran Mike Glennon will operate as Luton's backup versus Houston.
