The San Francisco 49ers waived wide receiver and 2018 second-round pick Dante Pettis after failing to trade him at the deadline, the team announced.
The Niners were known to be taking calls on Pettis for two weeks leading up to the Tuesday afternoon deadline.
Pettis enjoyed a promising rookie campaign in 2018, posting 467 yards and five touchdowns. However, the former Washington star appeared to fall into head coach Kyle Shanahan's doghouse last year, and he's out of the rotation completely this season.
Dante Pettis with 49ers
| Games | Receptions | Yards | TDs | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2018 | 12 | 27 | 467 | 5 |
| 2019 | 11 | 11 | 109 | 2 |
| 2020 | 5 | 0 | 0 | 0 |
Any team that claims Pettis will inherit whatever is left of his $961,870 salary this year, plus his 2021 salary of $1.25 million.
