Report: McCaffrey facing another absence due to shoulder injury
Carolina Panthers star running back Christian McCaffrey, who returned from an ankle ailment in Week 9, could miss more time after suffering a shoulder injury in Sunday's loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, reports Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
McCaffrey will undergo tests Monday, but his status for Week 10 "is very much in doubt," added Rapoport.
The veteran seemingly suffered the injury late in the 33-31 defeat.
Panthers head coach Matt Rhule declined to go into detail about McCaffrey's ailment Monday.
"As of right now he is listed as day-to-day," Rhule said, according to David Newton of ESPN.
McCaffrey looked strong in his return, rushing for 69 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries and catching all 10 of his targets for 82 yards and a score.
The potential loss of McCaffrey would hurt the Panthers' dwindling playoff hopes. The team sits at 3-6, tied with the Atlanta Falcons at the bottom of the NFC South following its fourth straight loss.
If McCaffrey is forced to miss time, Mike Davis will again take over primary backfield duties. Davis has 353 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 85 carries this season.
