The Cincinnati Bengals listed running back Joe Mixon as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers due to a foot injury, head coach Zac Taylor announced Friday, according to Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic.

The Bengals were confident Mixon, who's already missed two games, would be ready for the AFC North showdown.

But with the doubtful designation, Mixon is likely to be sidelined again.

"He wants to play more than anything, sometimes you have to protect the player from himself," said Taylor.

Cincinnati will also be without defensive tackle Geno Atkins for personal reasons.

Giovani Bernard will continue to start amid Mixon's absence. The veteran rushed for 99 yards and a touchdown and caught eight passes for 75 yards and two more scores over the past two games.
