Free-agent LB Burfict arrested on battery charge
Free-agent linebacker Vontaze Burfict was arrested early Saturday morning in Nevada on a misdemeanor battery charge, according to Clark County court records obtained by ESPN.
Specifics regarding the incident that led to Burfict's arrest weren't immediately made available.
The 30-year-old was being held on $1,000 bond, and his hearing is scheduled for Monday.
Burfict hasn't played since he was banned for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Indianapolis Colts tight end Jack Doyle in Week 4 of the 2019 season. It was the latest in a long line of illegal plays from the former Oakland Raiders defender.
The NFL reinstated the linebacker last winter, and Burfict claimed he was intent on changing his playing style in order to make a comeback.
Burfict's 12-game ban constituted the longest punishment for an on-field act in league history.
