Raiders couldn't believe Jets blitzed on game-winning TD
The Las Vegas Raiders are as surprised as anyone at the New York Jets' defensive alignment on the game-winning play Sunday.
The Raiders trailed 28-24 with 13 seconds left in the game and had the ball on the Jets' 46-yard line. Rather than protect against a touchdown, the only thing that could beat them, the Jets dialed up a blitz and left the Raiders' receivers in single coverage.
The result was a game-winning touchdown pass from Derek Carr to Henry Ruggs III.
The Jets snatched defeat from the jaws of victory, and the Raiders were blown away with what they saw.
"I couldn't believe they all-out blitzed us. I was thankful," Carr said, according to Lindsay Jones of The Athletic.
Ruggs was just as shocked.
"I was kind of surprised they brought the house like that and not drop everyone back," he said, per Jones.
The Jets were equally baffled by the call from defensive coordinator Gregg Williams.
With the loss, the Jets remain winless and in position for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 draft.
