Report: Washington's Gibson could miss 49ers game with turf toe
Washington Football Team running back Antonio Gibson is in danger of missing Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers after being diagnosed with turf toe, a source told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
Gibson suffered the injury early into Washington's Week 13 win against the Pittsburgh Steelers and was forced to leave the contest. He had two carries for 14 yards.
The rookie third-round pick entered the Pittsburgh matchup with 645 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns. He's been key to Washington's recent resurgence, rushing for 209 yards and four scores over the previous two weeks.
If Gibson can't play against San Francisco, it'll be a major blow to Washington as it competes with the similarly streaking New York Giants for the NFC East crown. Both Washington and New York sit at 5-7 after putting together three- and four-game winning streaks, respectively.
Peyton Barber and J.D. McKissic will likely split backfield duties if Gibson is sidelined.
